5 + 10 things you may not have heard of me before!
Hello, my dear people!
The World Cup 2010 in South Africa (thanks you for a great tournament!) just ended. It is already history, but your friend Paul the Octopus is very healthy and alive! And he will remain here, there and everywhere - just as long as you want (or as long he is 'among the living'...) him to stay. Him? As long as you want ME to stay, you great people! I'm little Paul, and I'm gonna tell you something...
Some or maybe many of you have already discovered the nice site on the World's most voluminous encyclopedia that is dedicated to Yours Truly.
Many people want to know almost everything about me (that's fine with me). Some people claim to know most things about me (that's not very nice sometimes). There is a fine list with "Top 10 things you need to know about World Cup star Paul the Psychic Octopus". Ah, those newspapermen and their fancy headlines... ;)
1. My favourite song is "Octopus's Garden", sung and written by the Beatles' Ringo Starr. "Oh what joy for every girl and boy / Knowing they're happy and they're safe," Sigh... That's what makes Paul really happy - to know that YOU are happy and safe...
2. My favourite movie is "Octopussy". Probably most small kids admire James Bond... I always wanted to be admired by beautiful women and bring down the 'baddies'!
3. As a kid I was afraid of the "Octopus Person"! Damn, a human torso, head and arms and additional tentacles and octopus' features can frighten little octopuses that are just growing up.
4. "Yes, we can!" That is, if you wanted to know if and how we octopuses can change our colour. A great article can be read here.
5. I can open a glass jar with eight revolutions! That deserves a "Wow!" Many non-octopuses would fail...
That's it for now, my dear friends. Stay with me, as I'll stay with YOU!
The world is my ocean! And I'm the one and onely, the Oracle of the absurd! ;)
The story of my life, Part 1
I'm a humble little octopus...
I'm 2 years old. I was born in Weymouth, England and I'm currently living in Germany, at the Oberhausen Sea Life. It was in 2008, during the EURO championships, that I began my career as 'soothsayer' (yes, that's how they call me in such nice articles like you see here. Oh, and they give me other names, too).
World-wide fame came with the 2010 football World Cup in South Africa. So many photographers and journalists from all over the world are now interested in my day-time activities. Like I said, I'm rather one of the humble kind... But I love it!
I guess Spain will eat less seafood in the future - thanks to me! Well, at least they promised to protect me from angry football supporters. And Xabi Alonso said: "Paul is a miracle!" Well, I guess I am! Read here (in German).
The world is my ocean!
Oracle of the absurd! That's me. That's what the world needs.
"He picks Spain. He picks SPAIN!" or: How my trouble began
Germany used to love me during the World Cup 2010. They watched every step in awe, and they even thought about me as new Federal President (the election was just a few days prior to the World Cup semi-final)! When I predicted Spain to win, I knew what this could mean in the end. But I'm an oracle. That's what fate is like. I live, and I will die an oracle!
Oracle of the absurd! That's me.
